The Wise Dollars Mid March 2013 Favorite Posts

Mid March Favorite PostsAt the end of February I posted The Gems ? My Favorite Posts of February 2013 which was fun, I enjoyed those posts and was glad I had an opportunity to share them with you. I was unsure on how I was going to go forward with sharing these posts but have decided to try doing them twice a month. I think a mid-month and an end month format will work best (at least for me :)). I will try to keep these at ten posts, well maybe up to fifteen! Here are my mid-March favorites, I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I did.

When DIY Plumbing Works Out In Your Favor? What can I say?! I’m a DIY nut and a tool addict, of course I liked this post! Thanks Grayson!

How to help a new employee settle quickly into their new office?Christopher?at This That and the MBA gives us a good reminder that new employees need help settling in and getting adjusted to the new work environment. I think we tend to forget that starting a new job can be a traumatic experience (so to speak) and we should make things easy for new employees.

Things That Make Me Scratch My Head?I always love a good laugh and this gem from John at Frugal Rules made me chuckle a few times.

PLUG YOUR SPENDING LEAKS?Andrew has a good way of describing overspending, except that in the past mine was a torrent, not a leak! Sometimes it?s felt like trying to empty the ocean with a thimble.

Death Panels Phooey, Here Is How It Will Really Work?Critical Financial brings us some insight on how Obamacare will really work, it won’t be death panels. It will be medical service refusing service from the threat of not getting paid. Besides, the picture of Pelosi wilding her “War Hammer” is worth reading this post by itself!

Money Lessons That I?ve Learned from my Grandfather?Justin at the Frugal path brings us a good post to remind all of us where the best money lessons come from. Quite often it’s from our parents and grandparent and Justin shares the story of what he learned from his grandfather

Is Clutter Ruining Your Productivity??My middle name is clutter, which is why I like this post. But in my defense, my clutter is an organized mess and I can usually find anything in the clutter. I love my clutter (not really but I felt compelled to say). Unless of course somebody messes with it then it’s just a huge mess!

Ways to Handle Unexpected Family Expenses?A guest post on the Frugal Farmer gives us some insight on handling unexpected expenses. This caught my attention, especially since I have been laid off, an unexpected expense is the last thing I need (I hope Mr. Murphy of Murphy?s Law isn’t listening)

?Building Wealth: Wounded Warrior Project?Brick by Brick Investing brings us this post. If you don?t read a single link in this post, please read this one! I can?t think of a better organization that?s in the front lines, helping our brave young men that have been injured in the battlefield. This is one of my favorite charities to support.

?What is your survival budget??Pauline at reach Financial Independence hit it home with this one. I read it just a few days after getting laid off. Talk about timely!

??A Week in the Life of An Optometrist?Kim at Eyes on The Dollar brings us some humorous insights as to what working with John Q. Public can mean. You have to wonder whether some folks leave all common sense behind when leaving their homes!

Is There Money In Politics??This post is from a guest at Modest Money. My response is, ?Of course there is!?. Why else would you be a politician. Wait, there?s power as well, the capability to make decisions ?that are good for them? ?for millions of people is probably a motivator as well. Talk about the ultimate ?Condo Commando?!

And last but not least, UKBulldog brings us this great post (of course it’s great, he mentions the Wise Dollar in it!)?FUN FRIDAY ~ THE AMAZING CHALK MAN?Actually,?I really wanted to share this because the?artwork?from?the?Chalk Man is absolutely amazing.

That’s all the posts I have for mid-March. I apologize if I missed anyone, but there are so many posts out there that are worth sharing that I think you could start a blog dedicated to doing just that! I?ll be doing this again at the end of March and I’ll have more great posts to share with everyone. I also have some interesting ideas for new posts on the Wise Dollar. Please stay tuned!

Your welcome John! I was tempted to call Pelosi’s Hammer a death hammer but thought it might be to much 🙂 Have a great weekend!

  5. Thanks for including me. Unfortunately, common sense isn’t so common anymore! Have a great weekend.

    • John says:

Your welcome Kim. Yeah common sense seems to have been blown out the window. I wonder if it has anything to do with all those people driving around with cell phones glued to their head. Maybe the fact that they are bombarding their brains with radio waves is dropping an already low common sense quotient! Have a great weekend!

  6. Who doesn’t love some DIY? Thanks for including my post Jose. Enjoy your weekend.

    • John says:

Your welcome Grayson. DIY is in my blood. I’m thinking of doing a series on extreme DIY. The backyard pond and waterfall, the Kitchen. I have a few that should be fun to write and post.

  11. Thanks for the mention Jose! Grayson’s was especially interesting because I’m a DIY kinda guy but I’m deathly afraid of plumbing. I can only imagine trying to save $200 will destroy my house 😉

    • John says:

Lol, plumbing is not too bad. Just test all your joints before you seal up the walls 😮 ! Your welcome, and thanks with the help with the php code!
